MoFr Inductee: David Mould

Congratulations to David Mould on your induction to the Museum of Flickr!

Flickr screen name: ouldm01

Flickr Photostream: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mouldy/

Website: http://davidmould.co.uk/

What’s your real name?
David Mould

Where’s home?
I live north of Glasgow, Scotland, close to the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs area and about an hours drive from Glencoe and Rannoch Moor.

How old are you?
49ish

What camera do you shoot with?
Recently bought a Pentax K5 but used a Samsung GX 10 for four years.

Any special honors you’d like to note? (Publications? Gallery Shows? Etc?)
A few magazine articles and a local exhibitions. I have been asked to do some talks to camera clubs and did my first this year…

What got you into photography?
Had a friend who was into photography in my teens, but got reinvigorated when megapixels caught up about 5 years ago..

How’d you get so darn good? Have you had formal training? Teach yourself? Any tips for people looking to learn?
Previously did painting and art… had an eye for composition, and had a friend who filled in the technical bits… otherwise i am self, flickr and internet student!

I have learned most from other great photographers online and try to give back as much as I have received. Tips… follow the best… be honest about your abilities and you will surpass them…

What do you look for when you’re shooting? What inspires you? What catches your eye?
Light, mood, form…. generally i am the only one daft enough to be where i am at the time that i take shots… I look for the things that others will never see due to where i am and when i am there.

If you could travel anywhere in the world to take photos (place, event or other) where would you love to go (and why)?
I would love to see Canada and Montana in the Autumn as that is my favourite time of year… I would also like the time to spend longer in some of the more remote parts of my own country, Scotland.

What do you do when you’re not a Photographer? (Job? Passion? Other hobbies?)
I was a psychiatric nurse for 18 years and now in sales… not a lot different!!..

You’re stranded on a desert island (an especially picturesque one). What piece of camera equipment (besides your camera) can you not live without?
Memory… but seriously, my tripod. I seriously doubt whether I can take a shot without it now…

Besides yourself, who’s your favorite Photographer on Flickr?
There are very many but , at present i am enjoying these guys…

www.flickr.com/photos/39281598@N04 (Pete Hyde)

www.flickr.com/photos/30954434@N04 (Mike.D.Green)

A combination of these two guys would be a good place to be…

What’s in your fridge right now?
Irn Bru (Scottish hangover cure) and about 4 chilli pickle jars, one hotter than the other…

What’s your super power?
The power of decision over where I should go on mornings shoot!!
