Congratulations to Dr. Ng Chong Kin on your induction to the Museum of Flickr!

Flickr Screenname: ngchongkin

Fiickr Photostream: http://www.flickr.com/photos/chongkin/

What’s your real name?
My real name is Dr Ng Chong Kin

Where’s home?
I live in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

How old are you?
I am 64 yrs old.

What camera do you shoot with?
I use a Canon 5D Mk II and a Canon 7D.

Any special honors you’d like to note? (Publications? Gallery Shows? Etc?)
I gained the Associate of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain in 1985

What got you into photography?
I got into photography by accident when I took over a Canon FTB from my brother who actually bought this camera by mistakefor his photographer friend. This was in 1980.

How’d you get so darn good? Have you had formal training? Teach yourself? Any tips for people looking to learn?
I bought some photo magazines and  started to teach myself photography and then got hooked on it. My tips to aspiring photo enthusiasts are very simple . Just keep looking at the works of the masters and work hard.

What do you look for when you’re shooting? What inspires you? What catches your eye?
My interest in photography mainly lies in the illustrative and applied category of photography. That is to say, capturing images that tell a story.

If you could travel anywhere in the world to take photos (place, event or other) where would you love to go (and why)?
I do a lot of travelling and even more so lately as I have already retired from active work since 2006. ( I worked as a medical doctor doing general practice). Asian countries are my favorite places for photography as I do find that opportunities for my type of work are plentiful.

What do you do when you’re not a Photographer? (Job? Passion? Other hobbies?)
My hobbies/pastimes include:
• Music, as I play the dulcimer, the lute and the cello in Chinese operas as an amateur.
• Golf - a 22 handicapper.
• Reading - anything which I can lay my hands on.
• Watching Korean dramas on the TV (latest craze).

You’re stranded on a desert island (an especially picturesque one). What piece of camera equipment (besides your camera) can you not live without?
If I am stranded on a desert/picturesque island, I shall not be too keen on taking photos as I shall be fully occupied with planning for my survival.

Besides yourself, who’s your favorite Photographer on Flickr?
My favorite photographer on Flickr is “Clicking”. I do not know his real name but he is fantastic!!

What’s in your fridge right now?
Well , let me see……err , err…Grapes , cheese and sweet white wine.
