What’s your real name?
Lee Seidenberg
Where’s home?
New Jersey
How old are you?
38 ½
What camera do you shoot with?
Mostly with a Fuji X100, Ricoh GR Digital III, Nikon D300, iPhone 4, Sometimes to rarely with a Nikon F3HP, Nikon N80, Lomo, Holga, Hasselblad 500C, Olympus XA, Olympus Stylus Epic and Canon GIII QL17.

Any special honors you’d like to note? (Publications? Gallery Shows? Etc?)
Had a few exhibitions in cafes and coffee shops in Brooklyn, NYC and New Jersey.
What got you into photography?
I got into photography in high school, while working in a one-hour photo lab. I learned a lot about film and developing. I was the one sitting at the big machine printing everyone’s pictures.

How’d you get so darn good? Have you had formal training? Teach yourself? Any tips for people looking to learn?
I’ve always been into painting, art and illustration. I’ve had formal training in those fields, but with photography, it just comes with practice. Lots of practice.

What do you look for when you’re shooting? What inspires you? What catches your eye?
I love shooting people. I look for interesting faces, scenes and things out of the ordinary. I like capturing a moment in time. I always have a camera on me.
If you could travel anywhere in the world to take photos (place, event or other) where would you love to go (and why)?
I have been to several places in Europe, Asia and been to Africa a couple times. I would love to shoot in India. I think the people, colors and culture lead to some very powerful shots.

What do you do when you’re not a Photographer? (Job? Passion? Other hobbies?)
I’m a freelance advertising copywriter/creative director and I do event photography. I really enjoy shooting weddings.
You’re stranded on a desert island (an especially picturesque one). What piece of camera equipment (besides your camera) can you not live without?
I guess some extra memory cards.

Besides yourself, who’s your favorite Photographer on Flickr?
A recent Flickr friend is Witold Riedel. He has an amazing eye, and a couple amazing cameras.
What’s in your fridge right now?
We have two kids, so on good days there’s yogurt, milk, juice, string cheese, eggs, and fruit. And on bad days, just fruit.
What’s your super power?
I can blow through interview questions really, really fast.

Congratulations to Andrew C. Mace on your induction to the Museum of Flickr!
Flickr Screen Name: andrew c mace
Flickr Photostream: http://www.flickr.com/photos/acmace/
Website:
Someday andrewcmace.com will actually have my 4x5 portfolio on it. I’m also on Instagram with my iPhone as andrewcmace.
What’s your real name?
Andrew Mace
Where’s home?
I recently relocated to San Francisco after five years in Manhattan.

How old are you?
32
What camera do you shoot with?
I started out using a Nikon D90, but these days I try to get out mostly with my 4x5, which is one reason I shoot so rarely now. The D90 has been a champ, though. I use Schneider Kreuznach lenses on my 4x5.

Any special honors you’d like to note? (Publications? Gallery Shows? Etc?)
museum of flickr isn’t good enough?
What got you into photography?
I like to explore, travel, be outdoors. Photography gives me an excuse to get out and also a chance to record what I see—and has also given me a greater appreciation for everything I encounter. I’d probably paint or draw instead if I had the skill, but photography—at least the kind I do now—really just takes a lot of patience, and fortunately I have a lot of that.
How’d you get so darn good? Have you had formal training? Teach yourself? Any tips for people looking to learn?
Like I said, I think I’m mostly just patient and occasionally lucky. But like anything, improving takes deliberate practice. Study the photographs of others, especially those that have achieved critical acclaim, reflect on what makes them so compelling, and visualize making the photograph. And make lots of photographs, definitely, but plan them beforehand and think about them as they’re taken. Your own style will develop naturally from study.
What do you look for when you’re shooting? What inspires you? What catches your eye?
The light just needs to be nice. Having an interesting or unusual subject or vantage point is a plus. Usually, but not always, if the scene doesn’t blow me away, a photo of it won’t either. But recognizing an effective scene comes with experience.
If you could travel anywhere in the world to take photos (place, event or other) where would you love to go (and why)?
Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo, but especially the Asian megacities in transition like Shanghai. There’s nothing like them anywhere else, and the opportunity might be once in a lifetime.
What do you do when you’re not a Photographer? (Job? Passion? Other hobbies?)
I spend most of my hours these days reading patents and writing legal briefs. In another life, I was a professional jazz guitarist. I’ve also made a living as a hacker and graphic designer.
You’re stranded on a desert island (an especially picturesque one). What piece of camera equipment (besides your camera) can you not live without?
A nice 10x loupe and, less importantly (assuming the desert island is sunny), a lightbox. Also, the island hopefully has a full-service film lab.
Besides yourself, who’s your favorite Photographer on Flickr?
I need to name at least a few: Thomas Birke, Zeb Andrews, and rachel_thecat.
What’s in your fridge right now?
Provia, Velvia, Portra, FP-100C45, and extra pulp OJ.
What’s your super power?
I have an uncanny internal chronometer. Also, I’m pretty good at sensing when I can take a long exposure on a building rooftop between gusts of wind.

How old are you?

What camera do you shoot with?
Currently Canon 5DMKII
Any special honors you’d like to note? (Publications? Gallery Shows? Etc?)
A few are listed here…I better get this up-to-date
What got you into photography?
Probably my dad…he used to photograph wherever we went and I never forget how much fund we had when we noticed that he exposed the same film twice while on a hiking trip in the Swiss Alps. Well that was a long time ago, things have certainly changed since we have digital technology which is when I got more serious into it.
How’d you get so darn good? Have you had formal training? Teach yourself? Any tips for people looking to learn?
Magazines always fascinated me but I had no clue how these images were done. Australia has a few very famous Landscape photographers…they were and are my greatest inspiration next to all the great talent on Flickr. I taught myself in every aspect…kept trying and going back to teh same places over and over. Each time it was different and I started to get a feeling of what to look for.
My tips to aspiring landscape enthusiasts are simple, get up early and setup an hour before sunrise. Photograph dawn and as the light changes. Look around and observe, study the landscape, enjoy the silence and you will get rewarded. Keep trying and learn from others. Flickr has an amazing pool of talent. Look at what inspires you when you see an image you like and apply this to your own work. Be your own.
What do you look for when you’re shooting? What inspires you? What catches your eye?
Light and simplicity, I visualise what I want to achieve and take the time to compose an image.
If you could travel anywhere in the world to take photos (place, event or other) where would you love to go (and why)?
Patagonia, Iceland and Antartic…I am fascinated by the purity and clutterfree landscapes.
What do you do when you’re not a Photographer? (Job? Passion? Other hobbies?)
I am busy as a Quality Assurance Manager, when I find the time I get out and relax with my camera gear. I feel it balances well. Unfortunately I am spending too much time in front of the computer.
You’re stranded on a desert island (an especially picturesque one). What piece of camera equipment (besides your camera) can you not live without?
Oh I wish…Islands are not too far from here. We have Fraser Island, Moreton Island, Stradbroke Island all within reach and you’ll find many images in my galleries. Aren’t we spoiled? If I was stranded or deserted I would want to make sure I have a wide angle lens and a panorama head.
Besides yourself, who’s your favorite Photographer on Flickr?
There are too many to list, my favorite photographers have different styles and strengths, they shoot landscapes, time lapse, portraits, macros and so on. I am not drawn to a particular style. Flickr has been a great inspiration for me and I am very thankful to all my very talented friends on Flickr.
What’s in your fridge right now?
Wine, Beer, Milk…I don’t even know what’s for dinner tonight. I might rather go out and shoot under the full moon.
What’s your super power?
Be myself…is that a super power. You decide
